Two Paintings from "When Jessie Came Across the Sea "

Here are a couple of paintings from "When Jessie Came Across the Sea" by Amy Hest.
These two are also going to be in the Cologne exhibition.

So many wonderful images in that book. A favorite is the one where Jessie gets the letter from her Grandmother. Love the dinner scene, too. How do you compose something like that? Did you take different photos of people and put it all together that way?

Thanks CV and Teresa,
That's right Teresa. Lots of photos and studying books for typical Jewish food presentation of the period.
I had a bit of trouble with the models for that particular shoot as the little girls absolutely refused to laugh or smile. I got just one useable shot in the end.
As you know, getting good reference photos is very important, but there is a heck of a lot of work to do to bring it all together.
I shall have to do a post on that process.
