The Fairy Kiss

Here's a gif showing a 3d image I did for the cover of Helen Maguire's book, The Fairy Kiss.
I enjoyed the idea of working in 3d very much. Having very little experience in the area though, I approached it in the style of the old Disney multiplane camera.

Upcoming Workshops

Here's a painting of Tony from one of my portrait sketch workshops. I tidied it up a wee bit afterwards.
My upcoming workshops at Kennedy Art are at on July 5th and August 2nd.

The Bee-Man of Orn Adapted for Theatre

I got a nice email from Tony Trigwell-Jones, Director of Arlington Arts  to say that he had recently adapted The Bee Man of Orn for Newbury Youth Theatre, who would be performing the show in Newbury and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where they have previously been given five star reviews and won awards for their productions.
I wish I could make it to one of the performances as it promises to be a really buzzing event.

A Profile Study of Alicja

I got a chance to do this little study of Alicja while I was teaching a lovely group of artists at the RHA yesterday.
Alicja is a beautiful girl, but it is difficult to catch a likeness of her because she has such strong features. I was pretty pleased with this effort though.
My class did really well working in charcoal and emphasising tone over line. I'll get some shots of the group next week.

Life Drawing at the RHA

I am looking forward to teaching life drawing at the RHA for a month of Wednesdays starting next week.
We will be working big in charcoal, so I expect it will get messy!

Buzzing in Limerick

I had a wonderful few days in Limerick at the Buzzing with Books Conference with my good pals, Siobhan Parkinson, our first Laureate na nÓg,  Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick and her husband Michael Emberley
Here's a selfie Marie-Louise took on our trip down.
I also met a few old friends again whom I hadn't seen for some time including Dr Barbara Ornstein, and Dr Bill Bingman from Frostburg State University.
Many thanks to the organizers especially Dr. Fíodhna Gardiner-Hyland, and everyone who looked after us so well and who made the event such a success in it's inaugural year.

Here is a little video that I showed to some of the children who attended on the second day. I thought the theme was appropriate to such a "buzzing" event.

The Portrait Sketch from Life

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's workshop at KennedyArt.
I do spend a lot of time reciting the same few principles, so I thought I would put down the basics of my technique in the form of a print-out. The painting I did of Andy seemed like a good one for the purpose.
