Mysterious Traveller Long Listed for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal

I'm delighted to be on the 2014 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal long list for my work on Mysterious Traveller by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham, published by Walker Books.
I was lucky enough to win the Kate Greenaway twice in the 1990s for The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey and for When Jessie Came Across the Sea.
There are some great illustrators long listed with me but fingers crossed for the shortlist anyway!

Mysterious Traveler

I got my first copies of Mysterious Traveler from Walker Books today.
It's written by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham with illustrations by me.
It was a great pleasure for me to work on this book as Mal and Elspeth's story is so involving, and, with it's desert setting,  it took me a long way away from the usual kind of subjects I tend to paint.
As usual Walker's design team have turned the project into a really beautiful production.
The book publishes in April.

The Mysterious Traveller

Here's a peak at one of the images from the book I am working on at the moment.
It is set in the mountains and deserts of north Africa.
I was thinking that this one has the potential to be a good cover image for the book.
