Some Sketches from "A Christmas Carol"



I've been looking through old studies from my version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol trying to get a suitable design for the seven foot painting I will be doing in Hodges Figgis window next week.
I find the drawings I do as studies have a freshness and immediacy that I can't often keep in the finished paintings.
I must do a book illustrated solely with drawings.

    There is so much talk lately about this very thing; how to keep the freshness of the drawing. As an unpublished artist (at least so far), it's helpful to know that I am not the only one struggling with this problem.
    The drawings are gorgeous by the way.

    I think I am going to do a painting based on the last picture, the one of the Ghost of Christmas Present.
    It's going to be an oil painting so it won't have that sketchy line feeling.

    Re technique Teresa, two of these are graphite drawings that I have scanned and slightly tweaked in Photoshop. The centre image is actually a watercolour over a drawing heightened with gouache.
