Buzzing in Limerick
I had a wonderful few days in Limerick at the Buzzing with Books Conference with my good pals, Siobhan Parkinson, our first Laureate na nÓg, Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick and her husband Michael Emberley.
Here's a selfie Marie-Louise took on our trip down.
I also met a few old friends again whom I hadn't seen for some time including Dr Barbara Ornstein, and Dr Bill Bingman from Frostburg State University.
Many thanks to the organizers especially Dr. Fíodhna Gardiner-Hyland, and everyone who looked after us so well and who made the event such a success in it's inaugural year.
Here is a little video that I showed to some of the children who attended on the second day. I thought the theme was appropriate to such a "buzzing" event.

The Portrait Sketch from Life
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's workshop at KennedyArt.
I do spend a lot of time reciting the same few principles, so I thought I would put down the basics of my technique in the form of a print-out. The painting I did of Andy seemed like a good one for the purpose.

CBI Irish Children's Book Awards
My dear friend Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick has just won the CBI Book Award for her novel Hagwitch.
The presentation in Dublin was a lovely event, and it was great to catch up with Marie-Louise and her husband, Michael Emberley, as well as the other shortlistees, Siobhán Parkinson, Paula Leyden, Derek Landy, Sheena Wilkinson, Oliver Jeffers and Eoin Colfer, our new Laureate na nÓg.
We had a lovely time celebrating with a great bunch of publishers, agents and families, as well as all of the lovely folks from CBI.
And I was lucky enough to pick up the CBI Award for Illustration myself for my work on Mysterious Traveller by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham.
Many thanks to Anne from Hodder for our lovely celebratory lunch.
Here are some photos from the day.

A Wonderful Weekend in Cavan
Many thanks to Anne Brady for arranging a wonderful weekend workshop in Cavan.
We had a super bunch of very dedicated artists and I am delighted that everyone achieved very impressive results in their portraits.
It was a great pleasure to meet old and new friends in the lovely setting of the Cavan Crystal Hotel.
It was lovely to see my dear friend Josephine Brady, Cavan County Librarian, and her daughter Kate.
Kate modelled for a character in one of my Gulliver paintings and Josephine was kind enough open the Johnston Central Library for me and my students to get to see the murals.
Our lovely model Jennifer was as still as a statue for the whole long weekend of posing.
We all enjoyed ourselves so much that Anne will be arranging another weekend workshop for the Autumn.
Send me your email address if you want to be put on my mailing list for early notification of workshops and other events.

Painting "Gulliver in Brobdingnag"
I am delighted to be heading to Cavan for a portraiture workshop this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends and a couple of my paintings illustrating Gulliver's Travels that hang in the Johnston Central Library there.
The picture at top shows "Gulliver in Lilliput" and this video shows how I created Gulliver in Brobdingnag.
The lovely soundtrack is by Neil Martin and the West Ocean String Quartet.
