A New Edition of "The Snow Queen"

My friends at Andersen Press have just sent me copies of a lovely new edition of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated by me.

A Charcoal Sketch of Francis

Here's a charcoal and chalk portrait I did of Francis a few years ago.
It makes for an interesting comparison with the painting below.

Kennedy's Workshop September 14th, 2013

Here's my demo painting of Francis from today's workshop at Kennedy Art

I got in about one and a half hours of painting through the day.

It was a super workshop with a really great bunch of attendees.

I was really delighted with the results my students achieved and was impressed by their dedication.

Pictiúr goes to Europe

Here's a nice little film about Pictiúr, the exhibition of Irish Children's Book Illustrators curated by my good pal Niamh Sharkey, Laureate na nÓg. 
If you look hard you might just see a couple of my pictures from The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey in there somewhere.
The exhibition toured Europe and is now back in Ireland travelling to venues around the country including IMMA over the Christmas period.
The show is running now at Draíocht, Blancharstown and continues there until October 5th.

My Art Classes in Dublin

In a few weeks I will be starting teaching some classes for my friend Germaine at Swan Art in Dublin.

I will be teaching a two hour class on Tuesday evenings and participants sign up for six weeks at a time.

We get artists with a wide range of abilities so I like to keep the programme of classes fairly flexible in order to respond to their needs and interests, but my six week programme generally starts with still life drawing and painting in oils, at some stage we will be touching on landscape and portraiture work and I like to end on the sixth week drawing the live nude model.

We always have a nice atmosphere at the classes I have done at Swan Art and you can see some of the great results my students have achieved in these photos.

UAC 2013 Life Room Exhibition: Framed and Hung

I had fun with Brian, Eoin and Paul mounting our group exhibition at the United Arts Club.

The show opens on Thursday the 5th September at 8pm.

Giuseppe Asleep on the Daybed

Here is one of my paintings that will be shown in the group exhibition opening at the United Arts Club this Thursday evening. The model was my buddy Giuseppe.
The work on show has mostly been created at Brian Gallagher's Thursday night life drawing session at the UAC.
